The new C40 Recharge has an all-wheel-drive powertrain that combines with the Polestar 2 engine, producing 402 horsepower and 486 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to the motor's torque and immediate power delivery, it can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.
The new C40 also has a 78-kWh battery that gets a driving range of about 226 miles. The battery has fast-charging capabilities that can replenish the battery to 80-percent capacity in less than 40 minutes. A new Volvo C40 Recharge comes with 250 kWh of complimentary power at the network of Electrify America's DC charging stations. If you want to charge the C40 at home with 220-volt power, plug the included 11-kW charger in and let it sit while you're inside working, cooking, relaxing, or sleeping. The battery can reach a full charge in around eight hours, which means you'll always have enough power to get behind the wheel and head to work every morning. You'll also get a tow rating of up to 2,000 pounds, matching the Polestar 2 and XC40 Recharge models.
A bonus to the C40 is the impressive regenerative braking with a one-pedal driving system. When removing your foot from the gas, the single-pedal system reduces your speed and stores kinetic energy for later use.
Interior
The C40 has a modern and comfortable interior with seating for five passengers. The upholstered seats consist of synthetic fabrics using only recycled materials, making it the first completely leather-free Volvo vehicle that maintains the luxurious look and feel you expect from a Volvo vehicle.
The rear-seat passengers won't have as much room as passengers in the XC40 Recharge, but most people will feel comfortable. The panoramic sunroof let's plenty of natural light and fresh air into the cabin, creating a more open feel in the cabin. The rear hatchback cargo space in this Volvo EV can hold a range of things and comes in a bit larger than a sedan's trunk but smaller than the XC40 cargo area. There are several smaller storage compartments and cubbies throughout the cabin, like door pockets, front glove box, and center console. Since there's no engine, the front trunk-or frunk-has about one cubic foot of storage space that can conveniently stow the charging cable and other small supplies.
Technology
Volvo teamed up with Google to create the in-car technology suite that includes an immersive, voice-activated vehicle management system powered by the Android Auto operating system. It features numerous Google apps, including Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play. Access all these features through a 9-inch intuitive touchscreen.
The Convenient Entry and Start system will automatically start the vehicle without any driver intervention after detecting that you've climbed behind the wheel in the driver's seat, as long as the key is in your pocket or bag.
