Volvo’s Head of Design Awarded “Hero” Status By Autocar

If you found yourself sitting in a Volvo V90 T5 Inscription with soft Nappa leather seats, walnut inlays, and a panoramic moon roof, you’d be sitting in a model that highlights design chief Thomas Ingenlath’s touch on the Swedish brand. You’d also be sitting in the same model that he brought to accept his “Design Hero” award from Autocar.

That’s right. After Ingenlath and his team set to work on the latest generation of Volvo cars in 2012, they haven’t just produced favorites like the XC90 and XC60. They’ve redefined the brand’s image by evoking the shapes, craftsmanship, and ambiance of Scandinavian tradition. By using high quality materials, simple, clean lines, and classic proportions, the latest models offer a calming sanctuary on the inside. But even with this award in hand, Ingenlath isn’t done designing new Volvo models. The XC40 is still forthcoming.
