Here at Byers Volvo, we love the fact that Volvo is out in front of the autonomous car driving technology, and by 2017 it will have 100 self-driving cars on the road in its home base of Sweden. So, how does it all work? Well, lucky for us they've put together a video detailing the process, and it lives up to its billing.

The vehicle will be able to drive on its own in designated areas, when you have programmed the route into the navigation system of your self-driving Volvo. When it is approved to drive on its own, the steering wheel will flash, and you can then start the process of allowing the vehicle to drive on its own. While the Volvo drives itself, giving you the free time, it displays a countdown, letting you know how much time you have left before having to take the wheel again. It also uses a 360-degree view to monitor your surroundings, so you can feel confident and safe.

When it is time to take the wheel back, the Volvo will alert you, and if you don't it will make a safe stop until you regain control of the vehicle.

It's pretty amazing to watch, and come 2017 we'll be excited to see the future of automotive in action. Until then, we have many luxurious and versatile vehicles here in our new Volvo showroom serving Columbus, OH and we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.
