A few months ago, we examined the Drive-E engine's implementation on a Volvo S60 model. The conclusion was that this powertrain offered plenty of power without sacrificing efficiency. Now, Volvo has revamped the engine's design to be even more powerful and has just released to specs to back up this claim.

The new Volvo High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept  is equipped with two parallel turbochargers, which is powered by a third electric tubro0compressor This turbo-compressor winds up the two twin turbochargers instead of directly feeding them. This allows the engine to generate an efficient 450 horsepower. Learn more in the video clip from the Swedish automaker below.

Will this concept engine be found on future new Volvo models in our Columbus, OH showroom? It is entirely possible! For updates, stay tuned to the Byers Volvo blog.
